Achieving Dark, Long-lasting Color in Eyebrow Products using Pigments

For producing eyebrow products that require darker, blacker color and longer lasting results, switching from water-soluble dyes (which are more suitable for coloring the product texture than staying on the skin) to Pigments is recommended.

Pigments are insoluble color powders that disperse within the formula. They provide much better color payoff and longevity on the skin compared to water-soluble dyes.

To achieve intense black and long-lasting color in a Water Base formula (since you are currently using water-soluble dyes), it is recommended to use black pigments that are already dispersed in water (Water Dispersion) and potentially add ingredients that help create a film to enhance longevity.

• Black Pigments used in cosmetics: Primarily Iron Oxides Black (CI77499) and Carbon Black (CI77266). Carbon Black generally provides a deeper, more intense black than Iron Oxides Black.
• Enhancing Longevity: In Water Base formulas, using film-forming agents helps the pigments adhere better to the skin, making the color more long-lasting, waterproof, and smudge-proof.

Recommended Products:

1. WaterMix™ Black (Iron Oxides Black): This is Iron Oxides Black pre-dispersed in water, making it easy to use in Water Base formulas. It also contains Ammonium Acrylates Copolymer, a film former that helps improve the longevity of the formula.
2. WaterMix™ Black (Carbon Black 20% Dispersion): This is a 20% dispersion of Carbon Black in water, providing a very intense black color. It is suitable for formulas requiring a very deep black. It can be easily used in Water Base formulas. If exceptionally high longevity is needed, you might consider adding other film formers compatible with your Water Base formula.

Using either type of WaterMix™ Black will make it easier to incorporate black color into your Water Base formula without worrying about pigment dispersion. WaterMix™ Black (Iron Oxides Black) also includes a film former directly to aid in longevity.
