Question
How can WaterBreaker™ be used to create a cream that breaks into water droplets upon application, and does the ingredient itself cause this effect or is it dependent on the formulation?
Answer
How to make WaterBreaker™ break into water droplets?
WaterBreaker™ is a self-emulsifying silicone designed to create "water break" creams or macroemulsions. It is not the ingredient itself that breaks into water droplets when applied to the skin, but rather the cream formulation that uses WaterBreaker™ as an emulsifier.
To achieve the water break effect with WaterBreaker™:
- It is used in water-in-oil or water-in-silicone emulsion systems.
- Mix WaterBreaker™ into the oil or silicone phase first.
- Gradually add the water phase to the oil/silicone phase while blending.
- Use a disperser blender head and blend at a low speed (not exceeding 1000 rpm). Avoid using a homogenizer, as this will result in smaller or fewer water droplets.
When the cream formulated correctly with WaterBreaker™ is applied to the skin, it will break and release a large number of water droplets.
Another product that creates a similar water break effect but is silicone-free is WaterDropper™.
