Adding Extracts and Colors to Powder Mask Bases
Question
For powder-based Peel-Off Mask and Hydro Jelly Mask bases, can only powder extracts and colors be added? Also, will cosmetic colors added to the mask stain the skin?
Answer
Adding Extracts and Colors to Peel-Off and Hydro Jelly Mask Bases
For both the Peel-Off Mask Base (Opaque White, Fast Setting) and the Hydro Jelly Mask, which are powder bases mixed with water, adding ingredients in powder form is generally the easiest and most recommended method.
Adding Extracts: Powder extracts are ideal as they can be easily mixed into the dry mask powder before adding water. Liquid extracts may be possible, but you would need to carefully consider the amount added as it could affect the powder-to-water ratio and the mask's setting properties. It's best to start with powder extracts if possible.
Adding Color: You can add color to these mask bases using cosmetic-grade powder pigments or water-soluble dyes. These should be thoroughly mixed into the dry mask powder before adding water. Avoid oil-based colors as the mask base is water-soluble.
Regarding staining, cosmetic-grade colors are formulated to be safe for skin and generally do not permanently stain. However, using excessive amounts of color or certain types of pigments could potentially leave a temporary tint on the skin, especially if the skin is very dry or if the mask is left on for an unusually long time. Using colors specifically approved for cosmetic use and following recommended usage rates will minimize this risk.
