Question
I want to add Glycerin 5% and Vitamin C 2% to lavender water. Can I add Vitamin C L-ascorbic acid directly to water? What are the stability issues, and what alternatives are available?
Answer
Hello,
Regarding your question about adding Glycerin 5% and Vitamin C 2% to lavender water:
- Glycerin 5%: Glycerin at 5% can generally be added to water-based formulations like lavender water. Glycerin is water-soluble and acts as a humectant.
- Vitamin C 2%: As the staff response correctly points out, Vitamin C in the form of L-ascorbic acid is not stable when added directly to water. It degrades quickly.
If you want to add Vitamin C to a water-based product like lavender water, please consider using more stable derivatives such as:
- AA2G (Ascorbyl Glucoside)
- Ethyl Ascorbic acid
These forms are designed to be stable in water. You can check the product details pages for more information on the stability and usage of each type of Vitamin C.
