Question

I have developed a face cream formula, but the resulting texture is too heavy and sticky. How can I adjust the formula to make it lighter and less sticky? My current formula is:

  • Water: 46%
  • Ascorbic Acid: 3%
  • Repair Activator: 10%
  • Nano Plus: 1%
  • Phenoxyethanol: 0.4%
  • Disodium EDTA: 0.2%
  • SiliSilk: 5%
  • Cyclomethicone: 19%
  • Squalane: 3%
  • Argan Oil: 3%
  • Scutellaria Baicalensis Extract: 5%
  • Light Cream Maker: 2%
  • Magic rad: 1%
  • Chamomile: 1%
  • Geranium Oil: 0.4%

Answer

Suggested Face Cream Formula Adjustment

To reduce the heavy and sticky feel, consider increasing the water phase and decreasing the oil/silicone phase. A higher water percentage generally results in a lighter cream texture. Reducing the total oil and silicone content will also contribute to a less heavy and sticky feel.

Here is a possible adjustment to your percentages:

  • Water: 57.6% (Increased from 46%)
  • Ascorbic Acid: 3%
  • Repair Activator: 10%
  • Nano Plus: 1%
  • Phenoxyethanol: 0.4%
  • Disodium EDTA: 0.2%
  • SiliSilk: 5%
  • Cyclomethicone: 8% (Reduced from 19%)
  • Squalane: 3%
  • Argan Oil: 3%
  • Scutellaria Baicalensis Extract: 5%
  • Light Cream Maker: 2%
  • Magic rad: 1%
  • Chamomile: 1%
  • Geranium Oil: 0.4%
    ---
    Total: 100%

In this adjusted formula:

  • The water phase is increased to make the cream lighter.
  • The Cyclomethicone percentage is significantly reduced, lowering the overall oil/silicone load to approximately 19.4% (5% SiliSilk + 8% Cyclomethicone + 3% Squalane + 3% Argan Oil + 0.4% Geranium Oil). This is closer to the recommended capacity for Light Cream Maker and should result in a much lighter, less sticky feel.
  • SiliSilk is kept at 5% to help with the smooth, silky feel and soft focus effect.
  • Squalane and Argan Oil are kept at 3% each to provide emolliency without making the formula too heavy at these percentages within a lighter base.

By increasing the water and decreasing the total oil/silicone phase, particularly the Cyclomethicone, you should achieve a cream with a much lighter, less sticky, and smoother skin feel compared to your previous attempts.
