Question

I accidentally mixed two ingredients, Repair Activator™ BG (Bifida Ferment Lysate, Butylene Glycol Base) and Alaria Esculenta Extract, into the same bottle. I understand one is water-soluble and the other is oil-soluble.

Can this mixture be salvaged or corrected in any way?

Answer

Advice on Mixed Ingredients

You mentioned you accidentally mixed Repair Activator™ BG (Bifida Ferment Lysate, Butylene Glycol Base) and Alaria Esculenta Extract into the same bottle. You noted that one is water-soluble and the other is oil-soluble.

Based on the product information:

  • Repair Activator™ BG is water-soluble.
  • Alaria Esculenta Extract is oil-soluble and does not dissolve in water.

Mixing ingredients with such different solubilities directly, without using an emulsifier to create a stable system (like an emulsion in a cream or lotion), will cause the ingredients to separate. The active components will not be properly dispersed, and the mixture will not be stable or effective for use in a cosmetic formulation.

Unfortunately, once these two ingredients have been mixed directly in this way, it is not possible to easily separate them or correct the mixture to make it usable. The mixture is likely compromised and cannot be salvaged for proper formulation. You would need to obtain fresh quantities of each ingredient to formulate them correctly, typically by incorporating them into a suitable base (like an emulsion) with appropriate emulsifiers if both phases are required in the final product.
