Alcohol-Free Body Spray Formulation and Scent Longevity
Question
I would like to make an alcohol-free body spray. If I use an oil-based formula, will the scent be long-lasting compared to an alcohol-based spray?
Answer
Alcohol-Free Body Spray Formulation
To create an alcohol-free body spray, an oil-based formulation is a great alternative. This type of formulation uses a carrier oil to dilute the fragrance oil instead of alcohol.
Example Formula (Oil-Based)
A simple and effective oil-based formula uses:
- Fractionated Coconut Oil: Approximately 75%
- Fragrance Oil: Approximately 25%
Fractionated Coconut Oil is a suitable carrier oil because it is lightweight, easily absorbed, and blends well with fragrance oils. You can choose any fragrance oil you prefer, such as Strawberry Fragrance Oil or Jasmine Fragrance Oil.
Scent Longevity
Regarding scent longevity, alcohol primarily helps the fragrance diffuse and project more widely. It does not necessarily make the scent last longer on the skin. Oil-based formulations, on the other hand, tend to keep the fragrance closer to the skin and release it more slowly over time, which can result in the scent lasting longer compared to an alcohol-based spray where the alcohol evaporates quickly, taking the fragrance with it.
