Answer
Alcohol Hand Gel Formula
Here is a basic formula for creating an alcohol-based hand sanitizing gel:
Ingredients:
- Ethyl Alcohol (96% or 99.9%)
- AnyGel™ (Dehydroxanthan Gum)
- Water (Distilled or Deionized)
Example Formula (using 96% Ethyl Alcohol):
- Ethyl Alcohol (96%): 73%
- AnyGel™: 1.5%
- Water: 25.5%
- Note: If using 99.9% Ethyl Alcohol, use approximately 70.1% alcohol and 28.4% water to achieve a similar final alcohol concentration.*
Instructions:
- Disperse AnyGel™ in the water and stir or blend until a gel forms.
- Slowly add the Ethyl Alcohol to the gel base while stirring constantly until fully incorporated and clear.
- Package the gel.
This formula provides a final alcohol concentration of approximately 70%, which is effective for sanitizing. You can adjust the percentage of AnyGel™ within its recommended usage rate (1-2.5%) to achieve your desired gel thickness.
