Question

I am trying to make a liquid-to-matte lip product. I need help finding alternative ingredients for the following:

  • Trimethylsiloxysilicate
  • Hydrogenated Polyisobutene
  • Silica Dimethyl Silylate

Could you suggest alternatives and advise on how to adjust the proportions of the ingredients to achieve the desired liquid-to-matte texture?

Answer

Alternative Ingredients for Liquid-to-Matte Lip Formula

Based on your formula and the ingredients you are unable to find, here are some suggested alternatives available:

  • For Trimethylsiloxysilicate:
This ingredient helps with water resistance and film formation for long-lasting wear. Alternatives are Cyclomethicone and Dimethicone.

  • For Hydrogenated Polyisobutene:
This ingredient helps the product adhere to the skin and provides water resistance. A suggested alternative is Squalene.

    • Squalene (Synthetic, For Lip Gloss) is a synthetic ingredient with a viscous, thick appearance suitable for adjusting oil viscosity and adding shine (glossy effect), commonly used in lip products. It is very stable and helps nourish the skin. Note that this is different from Squalane (Olive), which is lighter and primarily used for skin care.
  • For Silica Dimethyl Silylate:
This ingredient provides a smooth, matte finish. The suggested alternative is MatteSilica.

Using these alternatives may require adjusting the proportions in your formula to achieve the desired liquid-to-matte texture. Experimentation with the ratios of silicones and MatteSilica will be key to replicating the feel and finish you are looking for.
