Analysis and Mixing Procedure for Ultra-Mild Facial Cleansing Gel

Formula Analysis

Your facial cleanser formula is an Ultra-Mild formulation that is excellent for maintaining skin hydration. It is highly suitable for daily use, both morning and evening, especially for those with dry or sensitive skin.

Key Strengths:

• Gentle Cleansing: The combination of Coco Glucoside and Cocamidopropyl Betaine provides effective cleansing without stripping the skin's natural oils.
• High Hydration: With a 10% total concentration of humectants (Glycerin (USP/Food Grade), Natural Betaine (Crystal), and Sodium Lactate (60% Liquid, Natural)), this formula ensures the skin remains soft and hydrated after washing.
• Texture Enhancement: Xanthan Gum creates a stable gel structure, while WaterSil™ 8/12 (Water Gel Detackifier) helps reduce the stickiness often associated with high-glycerin formulas, providing a smoother skin feel.

Important Considerations:

1. pH Adjustment (Critical): Coco Glucoside and Sodium Lactate are alkaline. You must adjust the final pH to approximately 5.0–5.5 using a Citric Acid solution. This range is optimal for skin health and ensures the preservative system works effectively.
2. Allantoin Solubility: Allantoin has a maximum solubility of about 0.5% in water. At this concentration, it may crystallize if the temperature drops. Consider reducing it to 0.2–0.3% for better stability, or ensure it is completely dissolved during mixing.

Mixing Instructions

1. Prepare the Gel Base: Mix Xanthan Gum into Glycerin (USP/Food Grade) to create a slurry. This prevents the gum from clumping.
2. Hydration: Slowly add the DI-Water to the slurry while stirring continuously until a smooth, clear gel forms.
3. Add Actives: Add Allantoin, Natural Betaine (Crystal), and Sodium Lactate (60% Liquid, Natural). Stir until completely dissolved. (Gentle heating to 50°C can help dissolve the Allantoin faster).
4. Incorporate Surfactants: Add Coco Glucoside and Cocamidopropyl Betaine. Stir very gently to avoid creating excessive foam.
5. Final Additions: Add WaterSil™ 8/12 (Water Gel Detackifier), Fragrance, and Mild Preserved Eco™ (Preservative-Free). Mix until homogeneous.
6. pH Balancing: Measure the pH and slowly add a Citric Acid solution (drop by drop) until the pH reaches 5.0–5.5.
