Question

Could you please review my anti-aging serum formula? I would like to confirm the compatibility and appropriate usage percentage for each ingredient, especially Allantoin. My formula includes the following ingredients:

  • DI Water (67%)
  • Allantoin (I was planning to use 0.5%)
  • Xanthan Gum
  • Argireline
  • L-Glutathione
  • Galactomyces
  • Snail Secretion
  • DMAE
  • Safe B3
  • Panthenol
  • Mild Preserve Eco TM
  • Fragrance (up to 1%)

Please also advise on the correct mixing procedure.

Subject: Re: Anti-Aging Serum Formula

Thank you for sharing your anti-aging serum formula.

Based on the feedback, most ingredients in your formula are compatible. The staff noted that Allantoin should be used at a maximum of 0.5% of the water content (67% in your formula), which is approximately 0.3%. They recommend reducing the Allantoin concentration from 0.5% to 0.3%. Other ingredients are compatible.

Here are the general steps to create this serum:

  • Weigh the DI Water.
  • Slowly add Xanthan Gum to the DI Water while stirring continuously until it is fully hydrated and the mixture is thickened and uniform.
  • Add the other water-soluble ingredients one by one (Allantoin, Argireline, L-Glutathione, Galactomyces, Snail Secretion, DMAE, Safe B3, Panthenol) to the thickened water phase. Stir well after each addition to ensure complete dissolution and mixing. Ensure the water is not hot when adding heat-sensitive ingredients like peptides. Room temperature or slightly warm is usually fine.
  • Add Mild Preserve Eco TM and mix thoroughly.
  • If desired, add fragrance (up to 1%) and mix until evenly distributed.
  • Check the final product for consistency and clarity.

For fragrance, you can add up to 1% of a suitable cosmetic fragrance. It's best to choose a fragrance designed for use in leave-on facial products and check the product description for recommended usage rates and any potential compatibility notes.
