Question

I am looking for a BB sunscreen formula that controls oil and prevents dullness. Can you provide a formula that does not require blending?

Answer

BB Sunscreen Formula with SPF Protect Ultra™ II (Requires Blending)

Regarding your request for a BB sunscreen formula with SPF Protect Ultra™ II that controls oil and prevents dullness, the staff previously recommended a light BB cream formula using Silicone Blender. This formula is a good base for achieving the desired texture and oil control properties.

However, it's important to note that achieving a stable BB texture with dispersed powders (like Titanium Dioxide and Iron Oxides) and incorporating SPF Protect Ultra™ II effectively typically requires blending or high-shear mixing for proper emulsification and powder dispersion. While you requested a formula without blending, the recommended base formula is designed to be blended for optimal results.

Here is the adapted formula based on the Silicone Blender light BB cream, incorporating SPF Protect Ultra™ II. This formula provides a light BB texture, helps control oil, and prevents dullness:

Mixing Instructions (Requires Blending):

  1. Combine Silicone Gel (Ultra Clear, Super Silky), Dimethicone (Medium/350, Low-Odor), Polyethylene Wax (Hard, Melting Point 88C), Silicone Blender, SiliSolve™, Oil-Fix™ W, and SPF Protect Ultra™ II. Heat this oil/silicone phase to 70-80°C to ensure SPF Protect Ultra™ II is fully dissolved and dispersed.
  2. In a separate container, prepare the water phase (if any water is used in your final formulation - the base formula provided is primarily silicone/oil based, but if you add a water phase, prepare it here).
  3. Combine the powders: Mica Powder (13 Micron, Matte, Silane Coated), Polymethylsilsesquioxane 2microns, Polymethylsilsesquioxane 4.5microns, Titanium Dioxide 200nm EasyDisperse™, and Beige Iron Oxides EasyMix™. Ensure these are well-dispersed in a small amount of the oil/silicone phase from step 1 before combining everything.
  4. While blending the oil/silicone phase (from step 1), gradually add the dispersed powders (from step 3). Blend thoroughly until the powders are evenly dispersed and the mixture is homogeneous.
  5. If you have a water phase, gradually add it to the oil/silicone/powder mixture while continuing to blend until a smooth, emulsified BB cream is formed.

This formula is designed to provide the desired texture, oil control, and sun protection. However, achieving a smooth, stable, and evenly colored BB cream with effective SPF distribution is challenging without the use of a blender to ensure all ingredients, especially the powders and sunscreen, are properly dispersed and emulsified.
