คำถาม

I usually clean my beakers and stirring rods by washing with dish soap, rinsing thoroughly with water several times, and then rinsing with Distilled Water before use.

1. Is this method okay? Could there be any residue from the dish soap contaminating the cream?
2. I recently got a cat and want to ensure cleanliness. For sterilizing the equipment, can I use Alcohol 70% (the blue kind for wounds) that I have at home? Will the blue color leave residue?
3. Should I use Ethyl Alcohol 99.5% instead? Please advise.

Regarding cleaning your beakers and stirring rods for mixing cream:

  • Your current method of washing with dish soap and rinsing thoroughly with water, followed by a rinse with distilled water before use, is generally okay. If you rinse thoroughly with water, there should be no dish soap residue left.
  • For sterilization, especially with a cat in the room, using 70% alcohol is sufficient.
  • You can use the 70% alcohol you have at home, even the blue kind for wounds. The staff did not mention the color being an issue, implying that the alcohol will evaporate, leaving no residue.
  • Using 99.5% Ethyl Alcohol is not recommended for cleaning purposes because it is more expensive and better suited as an ingredient in formulations or as a perfume base.
  • If you wish to use the 99.5% alcohol you have for cleaning to save costs, you can dilute it with water approximately 1:1 to get around 50% concentration, which can also be used for cleaning equipment.
