Cleansing Water Formula for Sunscreen Removal: Adding Moisturizers and Preservatives
Question
I would like to inquire about a cleansing water formula for removing sunscreen.
I am proposing the following formula:
- MakeUp-Wash (PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides) 7%
- Propylene Glycol 10%
- Phenoxyethanol 0.6%
- Water 82.4%
- Can this formula be mixed?
- If I want to add moisturizing ingredients such as Aloe vera or Cucumber extract, which ingredient should I reduce?
- Is it possible not to include a preservative in the formula?
Answer
Hello,
Regarding your cleansing water formula for removing sunscreen:
Your proposed formula with MakeUp-Wash (PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides) 7%, Propylene Glycol 10%, Phenoxyethanol 0.6%, and Water 82.4% is acceptable.
If you wish to add moisturizing ingredients like Aloe vera or Cucumber extract, you should reduce the amount of water accordingly. However, please note that the moisturizing effect from these ingredients will be minimal as the product is a rinse-off cleanser.
Regarding omitting the preservative: While the ingredients themselves may not easily support microbial growth, not including a preservative carries a risk of microbial contamination over time. We recommend replacing Phenoxyethanol with a milder preservative such as Mild Preserved Eco (Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol), which is much gentler on the skin.
