Question
I am formulating a CE Ferulic serum. After mixing the water phase and the oil phase, the serum turned cloudy. I used Tocopheryl Acetate as the Vitamin E source. Why did this happen, and can the cloudy serum still be used?
Answer
Subject: Cloudy CE Ferulic Serum
Based on the staff's reply, the reason your CE Ferulic serum turned cloudy when mixing the water and oil phases is likely because you used the incorrect type of Vitamin E.
- The CE Ferulic formula specifically requires dl-alpha tocopherol.
- You mentioned using Tocopheryl Acetate, which is a different form of Vitamin E and is not compatible with this specific formulation, leading to the cloudy appearance.
The staff also noted that while the mixture may not be perfect, the current batch can still be used and may provide some benefits.
To achieve a clear serum as intended by the formula, ensure you use the correct dl-alpha tocopherol Vitamin E in future attempts.
