Question

Could you provide a formulation for a color-changing lip gloss or lip balm? I understand the color change (to pink or red) is caused by a pigment that reacts to moisture and pH. What specific ingredient causes this effect?

Subject: Re: Color-Changing Lip Gloss/Balm Formulation

Hello Khun Korawan,

Thank you for your question about color-changing lip gloss and lip balm formulations, and the ingredient that causes the color change.

As the previous staff reply mentioned, the color change (typically to pink or red) in these products is caused by special pigments or dyes that react to the moisture and pH level of your lips. A common example of such an ingredient is a pH-reactive dye like Red 27 (CI 45410).

These ingredients change color when they come into contact with the slightly acidic and moist environment on the surface of the lips.

Regarding your request for a formulation, please note that the specific color-changing pigments/dyes required for this effect are currently not available for sale by our company, as was mentioned in the previous response.

Therefore, we are unable to provide a formulation using ingredients from our current product range that would achieve the color-changing effect you are asking about.

If you are interested in formulations for standard lip gloss or lip balm (without the color-changing effect) using ingredients we do sell, please let us know, and we would be happy to assist you with that.

Thank you.
