How to Combine Pro Polymer™ Gel Maker and Satin Cream Maker™ in a Cream Formulation

Both Pro Polymer™ Gel Maker and Satin Cream Maker™ are ingredients that are typically added to the water phase of a formulation. To combine them in a skin cream, you can follow these steps:

  1. Prepare the Water Phase: Combine all your water-soluble ingredients (such as water, humectants like glycerin or propylene glycol if less than 5%, and water-soluble actives) in a container.
  2. Add Thickeners/Emulsifier: Add both Pro Polymer™ Gel Maker and Satin Cream Maker™ to the water phase.
    • For Pro Polymer™ Gel Maker, sprinkle the powder onto the surface of the water phase while stirring slowly. Continue stirring gently for 3-5 minutes until it starts to form a smooth gel texture. If your formula contains more than 5% glycerin or propylene glycol, you can pre-mix Pro Polymer™ with these first before adding to the water. If using only water, sprinkle and let it sit for up to a day to fully absorb water before blending slowly.
    • Satin Cream Maker™ can also be added to the water phase and mixed well.
    • Important: Avoid high-speed blending (above 2500 rpm) when mixing both ingredients, as this can damage the polymer structure and weaken the formula.
  3. Prepare the Oil Phase: In a separate container, combine all your oil-soluble ingredients (such as oils, butters, and oil-soluble actives). Heat this phase if necessary to melt solid butters or waxes (e.g., to around 50°C if using Shea Butter as in the Satin Cream Maker example).
  4. Combine Phases: Once the water phase has the thickeners/emulsifier dispersed and starting to thicken, and the oil phase is ready, slowly add the oil phase to the water phase while continuously mixing. Continue mixing until a uniform cream texture is formed.

Both ingredients are electrolyte resistant, which is beneficial if your formulation contains electrolyte-rich ingredients. However, with Pro Polymer™, if you have a high amount of electrolytes, you might need to use a higher percentage of Pro Polymer™ (2-3%) and add the electrolyte-containing ingredients after the initial gel has formed.

By adding both Pro Polymer™ Gel Maker and Satin Cream Maker™ to the water phase before combining with the oil phase, you allow them to properly hydrate and function as thickeners and emulsifiers to create your desired cream texture.
