Digital Scale Giving Incorrect Readings
Question
My new digital scale is giving incorrect readings. When weighing the included 200g test weight, it shows inconsistent values between 0.28g and 0.42g. When trying to weigh 5g of AminoSilk, the display shows 0.00g. What could be the problem and how can I fix it?
Answer
Hello, I apologize for the issue you're experiencing with the scale.
Based on the information you provided, the readings you're getting when weighing the 200g weight and the 5g AminoSilk are incorrect and inconsistent. I understand this must be very inconvenient for you.
Regarding the problem, here are some initial suggestions:
- Check for Covers: As suggested by mackyjaao, please check if there is any black cover or protective cover placed on the weighing platform or covering the scale itself. If there is, try removing it before use. Sometimes these covers can interfere with accurate weighing.
- Place the Scale on a Flat, Stable Surface: Ensure the scale is placed on a surface that is flat, level, and not vibrating. Placing it on an uneven surface can lead to inaccurate readings.
- Check the Batteries: Low batteries can affect the accuracy of the scale. Try replacing the batteries with new ones.
- Power On and Use the Tare Function:
- Always turn on the scale and wait for the display to show 0.00 before starting to weigh.
- If you are weighing AminoSilk with its bottle and want to know only the weight of the AminoSilk, you should place the empty bottle on the scale first, press the TARE (or Zero) button to subtract the bottle's weight (the display will show 0.00), and then add the AminoSilk into the bottle. The scale will then display only the weight of the AminoSilk. (However, in this case, you weighed with the bottle and got 0.00g, which might not be a direct Tare issue but possibly related to other problems).
- Calibration: Some scales can be calibrated. If the manual describes a calibration procedure and you have a correct standard calibration weight (not the 200g weight that came with the set, which might be for testing only), try performing the calibration according to the manual.
For the case where weighing the 200g weight gives very low and inconsistent readings (0.28g - 0.42g), as well as the 5g AminoSilk showing 0.00g, it might indicate a significant accuracy issue with the scale or possibly something obstructing the weight sensor.
If the problem persists after trying the steps above, I recommend contacting the store's customer service for further assistance or to inquire about checking/returning the product.
