Formula Review and Feedback (Hair Spray & Eye Cream)
Question
I would like to request a review and feedback on two cosmetic formulations I have developed: a leave-on hair spray and an eye cream.
Leave-on Hair Spray:
My formula includes Hydro Protein, Hydrolyzed Milk (Casein) Protein, Panthenol (Vitamin B5) ExtraLite, and Silicone Shine (Light & Silky). I would like feedback on the overall formula, especially regarding texture and how to properly incorporate Silicone Shine.
Eye Cream:
My formula includes Slim-Coffee, Light Cream Maker, Eye Preserved, 1,2-Hexanediol (at 3%), Ethoxydiglycol (at 10%), Ceramide Complex (CeraTouch™) (at 10%), and Snail Secretion. I would like feedback on ingredient compatibility (specifically Slim-Coffee with Light Cream Maker), preservation (using Eye Preserved and 1,2-Hexanediol), recommended usage levels for Ethoxydiglycol and Ceramide Complex, and if substituting Snail Secretion with Repair Activator (at 5%) is feasible. I am concerned about potential separation and texture issues.
Answer
Subject: Formula Review Feedback
Thank you for submitting your formulations for review. Here is the feedback based on the formulas provided and the previous staff replies:
Leave-on Spray for Hair:
Based on your formula and the staff's feedback:
- The current concentration of ingredients, particularly proteins (Hydro Protein, Hydrolyzed Milk (Casein) Protein) and Panthenol (Vitamin B5) ExtraLite, might make the spray feel heavy or sticky on the hair. It is recommended to reduce the percentages of these ingredients. You can test a small batch first to see if the current feel is acceptable for your preference.
- Silicone Shine (Light & Silky) is not directly compatible with water and requires an emulsifier to properly incorporate into the formula and prevent separation. If you wish to include Silicone Shine, you would need to add an emulsifier like Spray-Mix.
Eye Cream:
Based on the revised formula you provided and the staff's feedback:
- Incompatibility: Slim-Coffee is an electrolyte and is incompatible with Light Cream Maker. Including it will likely cause the formula to become liquid and separate. It is recommended to remove Slim-Coffee from the formula.
- Preservation: Eye Preserved is not suitable for this formula. The inclusion of 1,2-Hexanediol at 3% provides sufficient preservation, so you do not need to add another preservative. Remove Eye Preserved.
- Ingredient Levels:
- Ethoxydiglycol is used at a higher percentage than necessary. A concentration of 2% is generally sufficient. Consider reducing the amount from 10% to 2%.
- Ceramide Complex (CeraTouch™) is also used at a high concentration. A level of 5% is typically effective. Consider reducing the amount from 10% to 5%.
- Ingredient Substitution: Replacing Snail Secretion with Repair Activator at 5% is possible, as confirmed by the staff.
Please note that the suitability of the eye cream formula for your specific skin type cannot be assessed without more information about your skin condition.
We hope this feedback is helpful for adjusting your formulations.
