Could the team please provide guidance on how to make it?

Answer

Coconut Oil Serum Formulation

Based on the ingredients you provided, here is a suggested formulation and method for an anhydrous serum using Fractionated Coconut Oil:

Important Note: Octamethyl Cyclotetrasiloxane is an ingredient that is generally not permitted for use in cosmetic products. It is recommended to exclude this ingredient from your formulation.

This formula is designed as an anhydrous (water-free) serum, which helps improve the stability of Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid). The Vitamin C powder will be suspended in the oil/silicone base, not dissolved.

Suggested Formula Ratio:

  • Fractionated Coconut Oil: 40%
  • Cyclopentasiloxane: 35%
  • Dimethiconol (Cyclopentasiloxane Base): 10%
  • Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) (Ultra-Fine): 14%
  • Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate): 0.5%
  • Essential Oil: 0.5%
  • Total: 100%

Method:

  1. In a clean container, combine Fractionated Coconut Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, and Dimethiconol (Cyclopentasiloxane Base). Stir or mix gently until well combined.
  2. Add Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate) and your chosen Essential Oil to the mixture. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Gradually add the Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) (Ultra-Fine) powder to the oil/silicone mixture. Stir or mix continuously to ensure the powder is evenly dispersed and suspended. Continue mixing until no clumps are visible.
  4. Carefully pour the finished serum into an airtight, opaque or dark-colored bottle to protect the Vitamin C from light and air.

Additional Tips:

  • Ensure all your equipment and containers are clean and sanitized before starting.
  • Store the finished serum in a cool, dark place to maintain the stability of the ingredients, especially Vitamin C.
  • The Ultra-Fine grade of Vitamin C helps with better dispersion in this type of formula.
  • The effectiveness of L-ascorbic acid in anhydrous formulas can differ from water-based formulas with optimized pH.
