Question
I am trying to create an all-oil based skin nourishing product. I want to include Perfect-C™ 5%. I also planned to add Phospholipid and 1,2-Hexanediol.
- Are Phospholipid and 1,2-Hexanediol compatible with an all-oil base?
- What would the final formula look like?
- Is a preservative needed in this type of formula?
Answer
Based on the staff's reply, your proposed formula with Phospholipid and 1,2-Hexanediol is not suitable for an all-oil base because:
- Phospholipid cannot disperse in an all-oil formula.
- 1,2-Hexanediol cannot dissolve oil.
Therefore, for an all-oil skin nourishing product, the formula would primarily consist of Perfect-C™ and oil.
- Perfect-C™ (Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate) is oil-soluble and can be dissolved in oil.
- The manufacturer recommends using Perfect-C™ at 5% of the total formula.
- For a 50g formula, you would need 2.5g of Perfect-C™ (5% of 50g) and the remaining 47.5g would be the oil base.
- An all-oil formula does not require a preservative as microorganisms cannot grow without water.
Please refer to the Perfect-C™ product page for any specific compatibility limitations.
