Question
I have a whitening gel formula using Double Hyaluronic Gel base with L-ascorbic acid (10-15%), Glutathione (1-1.5%), and Disodium EDTA (0.2%). I want to add cellulite and skin tightening properties. Can I add Slim-Coffee™ 10% to this whitening gel?
I also considered making a separate formula for cellulite lotion with the following ingredients:
- Slim-Coffee™ 10%
- L-Carnitine 3%
- Ginger Oil (น้ำมันขิง) 1%
- Chili Hot™ 0.5%
- Lipid Soft Lite 7%
- Light Cream Maker 2%
- Cetearyl Alcohol or Cetyl Alcohol 1-3%
- Remaining water
Is this separate formula feasible, and can I combine all these ingredients into a single product?
Answer
Based on the information provided by the staff:
Adding Slim-Coffee™ to the Whitening Gel:
- Yes, you can add Slim-Coffee™ 10% to your original whitening gel formula.
- Staff C7 recommends adding a penetration enhancer like Ethoxydiglycol (5-10%) or 1,2-Hexanediol (3%) to help both Vitamin C and Slim-Coffee™ penetrate the skin better.
Separate Cellulite Lotion Formula:
- Your proposed formula using Light Cream Maker is not suitable because Light Cream Maker is incompatible with electrolytes like Slim-Coffee™.
- Staff C7 suggests a revised formula using Butter Cream Maker which is electrolyte-tolerant:
- Slim-Coffee™ 10%
- L-Carnitine 3%
- Ginger Oil 1%
- Chili Hot™ 0.5%
- Lipid Soft Lite 7%
- Butter Cream Maker 3%
- Cetearyl Alcohol or Cetyl Alcohol 1-3% (Adjust based on desired thickness)
- Adjusting to a Serum or Gel Texture: You can make the texture thinner (more like a serum or gel) by reducing the amount of Cetearyl Alcohol or Cetyl Alcohol to about 1% or even omitting it entirely.
Combining Ingredients in One Formula:
- Staff C7 does not recommend combining all ingredients from both the whitening and cellulite formulas into a single product.
- This is because the cellulite ingredients (like Slim-Coffee™ and L-Carnitine) have a neutral pH, which could raise the pH of the Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) formula (which requires a low pH for stability) and likely cause the Vitamin C to degrade faster.
- Therefore, making two separate formulas (whitening gel and cellulite lotion/serum) is the better approach.
Application Order if Using Two Separate Formulas:
- If you make two separate formulas, it is recommended to apply the product with the thinner consistency first.
- Generally, the whitening gel will be lighter than the cellulite lotion/serum (which contains oils and thickeners).
- Therefore, you should apply the whitening gel first.
- After applying the gel, wait briefly for it to absorb into the skin (you don't need to wait a long time, just until the first layer is no longer sticky) before applying the cellulite lotion/serum.
