Formulation for Post-Derma Rolling Wound Healing
Question
Hello, I would like to create a formula for personal use to heal wounds resulting from derma rolling. If I use the following combination, would it be suitable?
- Water 95%
- Live Yeast Cell Derivative (LYCD) 2%
- Copper Peptide (GHK-Cu) 2%
- Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) 1%
Can I just mix these together?
Answer
Formulation for Post-Derma Rolling
Hello! Regarding your proposed formula using Water, Live Yeast Cell Derivative (LYCD), Copper Peptide (GHK-Cu), and Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) for skin healing after derma rolling, the ingredients you've chosen are indeed excellent for promoting skin regeneration and repair.
Based on the products found:
- Live Yeast Cell Derivative (Saccharomyces Lysate Extract): Often used for anti-aging and skin revitalization. Your proposed concentration of 2% is within the typical recommended range for products like Dermal Respiratory Factor.
- Copper Peptide (GHK-Cu): Known for its wound healing and skin remodeling properties, making it very suitable for post-derma rolling care. Your proposed concentration of 2% is within the recommended range for products like Copper Peptide (GHK-Cu, Copper Tripeptide-1) (1000ppm Solution).
- Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF): A powerful ingredient that helps accelerate cell growth and repair, beneficial for healing damaged skin. Your proposed concentration of 1% is within the recommended range for products like Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF, Recombinant).
While the ingredients and their concentrations are appropriate, there are two critical points to consider for the stability and safety of this simple formula:
- pH Compatibility: Copper Peptide is typically most stable in a pH range of 4.5-7.4, while EGF is most stable in a pH range of 3-5. Combining them in a simple water base without pH adjustment could lead to reduced stability and efficacy of one or both ingredients. You would need to carefully adjust the pH to a range where both can remain reasonably stable, likely in the narrow overlapping range around pH 4.5-5.0.
- Preservation: A water-based formula like this, especially one intended for use on skin with micro-channels from derma rolling, is highly susceptible to bacterial contamination. It is absolutely essential to include a suitable broad-spectrum preservative system in your formula to ensure safety and prevent microbial growth.
In summary, the chosen active ingredients are suitable and at appropriate concentrations. However, the formula as proposed (just water and actives) is not stable or safe due to conflicting pH requirements and the lack of a preservative. You would need to add a preservative and carefully adjust the pH for a stable and safe product.
