Question

I have developed a shampoo formula and would like feedback or alternative suggestions. I also have questions about using a hair tonic.

My proposed shampoo formula is:

  1. Sulfate Free Shampoo Base (pH 7, Clear, Foaming) 30%
  2. Fragrance 1% (starting at 0.5%)
  3. Zinc PCA or Dandruff-Guard™ 0.2%
  4. Poly-Conditioner Eco 3%
  5. Phenoxyethanol SA (Optiphen Plus) 1%
  6. Any Gel 3% (starting at 3%)
  7. Water (remaining part)

My questions regarding hair tonic usage are:

  • Will washing hair daily or every other day affect the effectiveness of the hair tonic?
  • What is the recommended frequency for applying the hair tonic?

Answer

Recommended Hair Tonic Formula

Regarding the shampoo formula you proposed, the ingredients are generally suitable, but the staff advised against using "Any Gel" (Dehydroxanthan Gum) for gelling shampoo or liquid soap formulas. They recommended trying the formula without a gel maker first, as the viscosity will develop over 1-2 days. If more thickness is desired after that, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose was suggested as a suitable alternative for shampoos.

Here is the recommended shampoo formula, noting the point about the gel maker:

Finally, to answer your questions about usage:

  1. Daily Washing: Washing your hair daily or every other day will not affect the effectiveness of the hair tonic, as it absorbs into the skin quickly.
  2. Application Frequency: For optimal results, you can use the hair tonic twice a day.
