Improving Spreadability in Your Cream Formula

You've observed slight friction in your cream formula containing 5% LipidSoft™ Silk and are looking to improve its spreadability and slip.

LipidSoft™ Silk is an excellent emollient that provides a soft, light feel and helps with spreadability, and it can be used at concentrations up to 100%. Increasing the amount of LipidSoft™ Silk in your formula is one potential way to enhance the slip. You could try increasing it gradually, perhaps to 7-10%, and observe the effect on the texture and spreadability.

Alternatively, you could introduce or increase the amount of Dimethicone in your formula. Dimethicone is widely used in cosmetics specifically to provide a smooth, slippery feel and improve glide. Lighter viscosity Dimethicones, such as Dimethicone (Ultra Light/1.5, Low-Odor) or Dimethicone (Very Light/5, Low-Odor), are particularly effective at reducing friction and improving slip without feeling heavy.

Adding Dimethicone at a concentration of 1-5% is often sufficient to significantly improve spreadability. It should be incorporated into the oil phase of your formula.

To determine the best approach for your specific formula, it's recommended to try both increasing LipidSoft™ Silk and adding a light Dimethicone in small test batches to see which provides the desired feel.
