Question
I have questions regarding BHA products:
- Is BHA EZ still available?
- What is the pH of Encapsulated Salicylic Acid (Liquid, Timed-Release)?
- Can Complex Salicylic Acid be mixed with Azelaic Acid to make a gel for clogged pores and acne marks?
Answer
Regarding your questions about BHA:
- BHA EZ availability: BHA EZ (Product ID 148) has been discontinued by the manufacturer. The recommended replacement is Complex Salicylic Acid (Product ID 2014), which is also water-soluble.
- Encapsulated Salicylic Acid pH: Encapsulated Salicylic Acid (Liquid, Timed-Release) (Product ID 229) has a pH of 4.5 - 6.5. It is suitable for wash-off formulas like cleansers, but not ideal for leave-on products. For leave-on formulas, Complex Salicylic Acid (Product ID 2014) is recommended.
- Mixing with Azelaic Acid: You can mix Complex Salicylic Acid (Product ID 2014) with Azelaic Acid (Product ID 224) to create a gel for clogged pores and acne marks. However, please be aware that using both ingredients at high concentrations might cause skin irritation. It is recommended to include anti-irritant and moisturizing ingredients in your formula to help reduce potential irritation.
