Question

I would like to formulate a Leave-on Conditioner for my hair, which is fine, wavy, lacks volume, is frizzy, and experiences hair loss. I plan to use Silky Serum Base Plus and add the following ingredients:

  • Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • Hydrolyzed Silk Protein
  • Pure Keratin
  • Melatonin Forte™
  • Creatine 100
  • Slim-Coffee™
  • Panthenol
  • Hydro Protein
  • Poly-Conditioner Eco
  • Hydrolyzed Milk Protein
  • Zinc PCA

Could you please advise on the feasibility of this formula? Is it suitable for my hair type and concerns? What are the recommended usage instructions and frequency?

Answer

Hello,

Regarding the Leave-on Conditioner formula you inquired about, our team has reviewed it and has the following additional recommendations:

  1. Feasibility: This formula can be made, especially since you have experience using Silky Serum Base Plus and have a blender to assist with mixing, which will help emulsify the oil and water phases effectively.

  2. Formula Adjustments for Performance and Preservation:

    • Silicone and Conditioning: To achieve better results in terms of hair softness, shine, and frizz control, as you mentioned previously using silicone, we recommend reducing the amount of Fractionated Coconut Oil to about 3-5% and adding approximately 5% of Silicone Shine (Light & Silky) instead. Silicone Shine is more effective at coating hair strands for smoothness and shine in a leave-on formula compared to coconut oil.
    • Preservation: Since the formula contains Hydrolyzed Silk Protein, a natural ingredient that can be a good medium for microorganisms, PaeoniaPreserve™ at 2% might not be sufficient for long-term preservation. We recommend considering adding another 1-1.5% of Mild Preserved Eco to enhance the preservative system.
    • Other Ingredients: The other ingredients you selected, such as Pure Keratin, Melatonin Forte™, Creatine 100, Slim-Coffee™, Panthenol, Hydro Protein, Poly-Conditioner Eco, Hydrolyzed Milk Protein, and Zinc PCA (which is a better choice than L-Carnitine for oil control and dandruff as per staff feedback), are all good ingredients for nourishing and addressing your hair concerns (fine, wavy, lack of volume, frizz, and hair loss).
  3. Usage and Frequency:

    • How to Use: Use after washing your hair and towel-drying or blow-drying until damp. Distribute the leave-on conditioner throughout your hair, focusing on the mid-lengths to ends. Do not rinse.
    • Frequency: The frequency of use depends on your hair condition and needs. If you want to focus on conditioning and frizz control, you can use it every time after washing your hair or on days when you need extra styling help. For ingredients targeting hair loss, such as Melatonin Forte™ and Slim-Coffee™, consistent regular use (possibly daily or as appropriate) may help show more noticeable results. You can try using it after washing first, and if you feel your hair needs more nourishment on other days, you can apply a small amount.

In summary, this formula is feasible and contains good ingredients for your hair concerns. Adjusting it based on the team's recommendations will help you achieve a more effective and stable product.
