Question

Regarding lipstick making:

1. When making lipstick, can powder color be mixed with `LipidSoft Disperse` first before adding to the lipstick base?
2. For a matte lipstick stick that feels dry/unsmooth during application, can this be fixed by increasing the amount of `Dimethicone` and `Dimethicone Crosspolymer` in the formula to make the lipstick texture smoother?
3. When should `glister` powder be added during the lipstick making process?

Answer

Hello,

Thank you for your questions regarding lipstick making.

  1. Mixing powder color with LipidSoft Disperse: Mixing powder color with LipidSoft Disperse beforehand and then adding it to the lipstick base may cause sedimentation. We recommend using READYMIX liquid colors, which are pre-dispersed in oil by the manufacturer, ensuring no sedimentation and consistent color intensity throughout.
  2. Improving matte lipstick texture: If your matte lipstick feels dry or not smooth during application, increasing the amount of Dimethicone or Dimethicone Crosspolymer might not be the most effective solution. We recommend trying SiliSilk at 3% to help improve the smoothness of the lipstick texture.
  3. Adding glitter powder: Glitter powder (like Mica Pearl) can be added at any step of the process as long as it is dispersed into the formula. It can withstand heat up to 80°C.

Hope this helps!
