Mixing Active Ingredients into Existing Eye Cream and Carrier Oil
Question
I am 45 years old and my face is starting to lose firmness, especially the under-eye area which has dark circles and puffiness. I have two questions:
- If I buy REGU®-AGE 3 ml., can I mix it into the eye cream I am currently using?
- If I buy ingredients for eyelash growth, can I mix them into Fractionated Coconut Oil and use it directly?
Please advise.
Answer
Hello,
I will answer your questions in two parts:
1. Mixing REGU®-AGE into your existing eye cream:
Generally, it is not recommended to mix active ingredients like REGU®-AGE into finished cosmetic products such as your existing eye cream. This is because:
- Formula Stability: The formula of a finished product is already balanced. Adding another ingredient can disrupt the original formula's stability, change its texture, or cause some ingredients to degrade faster.
- Effectiveness: Adding an active ingredient to a finished product can result in an inappropriate concentration of the active ingredient in the final mix. It might be too low to be effective or too high, potentially causing irritation. Also, the active ingredient might not be compatible with some ingredients in the original cream, reducing its effectiveness.
- Safety: Finished products undergo safety testing for that specific formula. Adding other ingredients might cause unexpected reactions or make the product unsafe for use around the eyes.
Recommendation: It is recommended to use REGU®-AGE in a DIY formulation specifically designed for eye serums or creams, following the recommended usage percentage (usually indicated in the product details), or choose products that already contain REGU®-AGE.
2. Mixing eyelash growth ingredients into Fractionated Coconut Oil:
Regarding mixing ingredients that help with eyelash growth into Fractionated Coconut Oil, this depends on what specific "eyelash growth ingredients" you are referring to.
- Some ingredients may be soluble and stable in oil and can be mixed with coconut oil for lash care.
- However, some ingredients may require a different base (such as a water-based serum) or may have limitations when mixed with oil.
Recommendation: You need to check the details, usage instructions, and solubility properties of the specific eyelash growth ingredient. See if it can be mixed with oil and at what concentration it should be used. Although coconut oil is a good and safe carrier oil for use around the eyes, using a base specifically designed for lash serums might provide better results in terms of texture, absorption, and ease of application.
Conclusion: For the best results, safety, and to ensure the active ingredients work effectively, it is generally better to use ingredients in formulations specifically designed for them or follow tested DIY recipes, rather than mixing them into existing finished products.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!
