Question
Regarding a formulation containing Aloe Vera Extract (10:1 FullAssay™) and alcohol, can essential oil be mixed into this formulation without using a solubilizer?
Answer
Based on the information provided by the staff:
- Dilution Ratio: The Aloe Vera Extract (10:1 FullAssay™) is used at a rate of 1-3% in your formulation. The staff notes that using 3% of this extract is equivalent to using 30% of fresh aloe vera. Using a higher concentration might make the product sticky and could increase the chance of skin irritation.
- Mixing with Alcohol and Essential Oils: Essential oils cannot dissolve directly in water or water/alcohol mixtures without a solubilizer (emulsifier). To incorporate essential oils into your spray formulation, you will need to use a suitable solubilizer. The staff recommends using Flora Solve™ or Flora Solve™ Clear for mixing fragrances/essential oils into water. Please refer to the product pages for detailed instructions on how to use these solubilizers.
