Question

Can L-Ascorbic Acid powder be mixed into Amino Powder Cleanser, and if so, will the L-Ascorbic Acid remain stable and effective for skin benefits?

Answer

Mixing L-Ascorbic Acid with Amino Powder Cleanser

While it is technically possible to mix L-ascorbic acid powder with Amino Powder Cleanser powder, it is not recommended if you intend to gain the functional benefits of Vitamin C on the skin.

Here's why:

  • Stability: L-ascorbic acid is highly unstable when dissolved in water and oxidizes quickly, losing its effectiveness. Amino Powder Cleanser is designed to be mixed with water for use.
  • pH Level: L-ascorbic acid requires a low pH (ideally between 2.0-4.0, with cosmetic products applied to the skin needing a pH of at least 3.5 according to FDA) to remain stable and effective. Amino Powder Cleanser has a pH of 5-6, which is not suitable for L-ascorbic acid.
  • Contact Time: Cleansing products are typically on the skin for a very short period before being rinsed off. This brief contact time is insufficient for L-ascorbic acid to be absorbed and exert its benefits, even if it were stable and at the correct pH.

Therefore, while you could mix them for marketing purposes to state that the product contains Vitamin C, you should not expect any significant skin benefits from the L-ascorbic acid in this type of formulation due to rapid degradation upon contact with water and insufficient contact time on the skin.
