Question

I would like to ask: If I add 5% Rose Hip Oil (Virgin, Fresh) into 95% Aloe Vera Gel (Heavy), will the Aloe Vera Gel become liquid or separate after mixing? If I want to prevent separation, what should I add? Thank you.

Answer

Mixing 5% Rose Hip Oil (an oil phase) into 95% Aloe Vera Gel (a water-based gel) without an emulsifier will likely cause the mixture to separate over time. Oil and water phases do not naturally mix and remain stable. The gel structure might also be affected, potentially becoming thinner.

To prevent separation and create a stable emulsion, you need to add an emulsifier. Since you are adding oil into a water-based gel, you would typically use an oil-in-water (O/W) emulsifier.

The specific type and amount of emulsifier needed will depend on the total oil percentage and the desired texture. You can search for "emulsifier" on the website to find suitable options. Look for emulsifiers designed for O/W emulsions.
