Question

I have dry and sensitive skin, and I'm not comfortable mixing creams. I'm currently using Argan Oil, which has helped, but I still have peeling on my cheekbones. Which oil would you recommend that won't cause acne? Please advise.

Answer

Recommended Natural Oils for Dry, Sensitive, Acne-Prone Skin

  • Jojoba Oil (Golden - Deodorized)

    • This oil is very similar in structure to the natural oils produced by your skin (sebum).
    • It is non-comedogenic, meaning it's unlikely to clog pores and cause acne.
    • Jojoba oil is highly moisturizing and can help balance the skin's oil production, which can be beneficial for both dryness and preventing breakouts.
    • It's well-absorbed and not greasy, making it comfortable to use.
    • It can help relieve dryness, itching, and flaking.
  • Squalane (Olive)

    • Derived from olives, Squalane is a pure, non-greasy oil that is excellent for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin.
    • It is quickly absorbed and provides excellent moisture, helping to combat dryness and flakiness.
    • Squalane is known for its ability to soften the skin and improve flexibility.
    • It is very stable and unlikely to cause irritation.
  • NaturalProfile™ Safflower Seed Oil (Cold-Pressed)

    • This oil is rich in Linoleic acid (Omega-6), which is essential for healthy skin barrier function.
    • It helps the skin retain moisture, improves elasticity, and can help remove dry, rough skin.
    • Linoleic acid is often recommended for acne-prone skin as it can help normalize sebum composition, potentially reducing clogged pores.
  • Prickly Pear Seed Oil (Virgin, Cold-Pressed, Moroccan)

    • Rich in antioxidants, Vitamin E, and Linoleic acid, this oil has anti-inflammatory properties.
    • It can help nourish dry skin and its Linoleic acid content is beneficial for acne-prone skin.
  • Marula Oil (Cold-Pressed, South Africa)

    • This oil has a lightweight texture and is highly moisturizing.
    • It contains fatty acids and antioxidants that help moisturize and protect the skin.

These oils are generally considered less likely to cause breakouts compared to some other oils, while still providing significant moisturizing benefits to help with your dry and peeling skin. You can try applying a few drops directly to your skin, especially on the dry areas like your cheekbones, after cleansing and before your moisturizer (if you use one).
