คำถาม
I am mixing a perfume spray with the following ingredients and amounts:
- 12H Fix: 4 g
- LipidSoft: 8 g
- Fragrance: 20 g
- Alcohol: 48 g
After adding the alcohol and fragrance, the mixture turns into a sticky lump. What could be the cause?

Perfume Spray Gelling Issue
The issue of your perfume spray mixture turning into a sticky lump after adding alcohol and fragrance is likely due to the incompatibility or limited solubility of the LipidSoft ingredients, which are oil-soluble emollients, in the high-concentration alcohol base.
- The LipidSoft™ Fix (12H Fix) you used at 4g (5%) is within the recommended usage range (5-15%) and functions as a stabilizer and provides water resistance.
- The problem might stem from the other LipidSoft you used at 8g (10%). Different types of LipidSoft have varying solubility in alcohol. Using a total of 15% emollients in a 60% alcohol base might be too high for some emollients, causing them to separate or form lumps when mixed with alcohol and fragrance.
Suggested Solutions:
- Reduce Total LipidSoft Amount: Try reducing the combined amount of both LipidSoft types to improve solubility in alcohol.
- Consider Alcohol-Soluble LipidSoft: If the LipidSoft type used at 8g is not compatible with alcohol, consider switching to a LipidSoft type known for better alcohol solubility, such as LipidSoft™ C1215.
- Adjust Mixing Order: Try dissolving the fragrance in the alcohol first, then slowly add the melted LipidSoft mixture into the alcohol + fragrance mixture while stirring continuously.
Adjusting the formulation and testing the compatibility of different ingredients is crucial when developing perfume spray systems.
