Primer Formulation
Question
Can Silicone Gel base be used alone as a primer? If so, please provide example primer formulations, including one using LipidSoft and one using Silicone.
I would like to see formulations with percentages, such as:
Example Primer Formula using LipidSoft:
- LipidSoft Moist: 25%
- Luxury Cream Maker (Emulsifier, preferably a heavier type to help coat the skin): 5%
- Phenoxyethanol SA (Preservative): 1%
- Water: Remaining part
Example Primer Formula using Silicone:
- Silicone Blend: 46.5%
- Silicone Gel (Ultra Clear): 50%
- Silicone Blend: 3%
- SiliSolve (Water-Silicone Emulsifier): 0.5%
Answer
Subject: Primer Formulation
Regarding your question about using silicone gel base alone as a primer and requesting formulations:
Yes, a silicone gel base can be used as a primer on its own. However, adding other ingredients is common to adjust the texture (e.g., making it less gel-like with Cyclomethicone) or add benefits like smoothing and coverage (e.g., with powders like BB Micro Silk or Silk Talc Powder), and color if desired.
The principle of a primer is to coat the skin with a film-forming agent, typically Silicone or LipidSoft, to create a smooth surface for makeup application and help makeup adhere better.
Here are example primer formulations with percentages:
Example Primer Formula using LipidSoft:
- LipidSoft Moist: 25%
- Luxury Cream Maker (Emulsifier, preferably a heavier type to help coat the skin): 5%
- Phenoxyethanol SA (Preservative): 1%
- Water: Remaining part (69%)
Example Primer Formula using Silicone:
- Silicone Blend: 46.5%
- Silicone Gel (Ultra Clear): 50%
- Silicone Blend: 3%
- SiliSolve (Water-Silicone Emulsifier): 0.5%
These formulas provide a starting point, and you can adjust them or add other beneficial ingredients as needed.
