Proper usage of digital pH meter for shampoo

When using a digital pH meter to measure the pH of shampoo, you can dip the probe directly into the product, but there are important precautions to ensure accuracy and protect the device:

1. Immersion Depth

• For the Digital pH meter (temporary use): This model is not waterproof. Do not immerse the probe deeper than 1 cm. If liquid enters the body of the device, it will be damaged.
• For the Digital pH meter (For Laboratory): This model is more rugged and waterproof, but it is still good practice to avoid submerging the entire unit unnecessarily.

2. Measurement Process

• Stirring: Gently stir the probe in the shampoo to ensure the sensor is in full contact with the liquid and to remove any air bubbles.
• Stability: Wait for at least 15–30 seconds until the reading on the screen becomes stable before recording the value.
• Dilution (Optional): If the shampoo is very thick or pearlescent, the reading might take a long time to stabilize. You can dilute the shampoo with distilled water (e.g., 1 part shampoo to 9 parts water) to get a faster, more stable reading.

3. Cleaning and Maintenance

• Rinse Immediately: Shampoo contains surfactants and polymers that can dry and form a film on the glass sensor. Always rinse the probe thoroughly with clean water (preferably distilled water) immediately after use.
• Do Not Wipe: Never wipe or rub the glass bulb sensor with your fingers or a cloth, as this can damage the delicate sensor or create static charge. Simply shake off excess water or gently pat the surrounding plastic dry.
• Storage: Store the probe with its cap on. For lab-grade meters, keeping the sensor moist with a storage solution is recommended.
