The original guidance is still generally usable, but please note these current formulation points before making the serum:

  • Complex Salicylic Acid at 5% already gives 2% salicylic acid equivalent. This is the maximum leave-on level and should not be increased. Because this is combined with Laurocapram, the formula may sting or irritate some users; patch test first and start with low-frequency use.
  • The listed percentages add up to about 101%. Reduce water or another component so the final formula totals 100%.
  • Target the final pH around 4.5-5.5, with about pH 4.0-6.0 as the practical control range. This helps keep Zinc PCA soluble and keeps the formula compatible with the main actives and preservative system.
  • For better process reliability, dissolve Magnesium Sulfate in the water phase before slowly adding the water phase into Silky Serum Base. Adding Magnesium Sulfate as dry powder at the end is less ideal because it can dissolve unevenly.
