Questions about Sodium Lactate Plus and Thickeners (AnyGel, SugarThick) in Shower Gel

Question

I have some questions about using Sodium Lactate Plus and certain thickeners in a shower gel formulation:

  1. Is Sodium Lactate Plus a mild alkali?
  2. If I add Sodium Lactate Plus to shower gel for moisturizing, what percentage should I use?
  3. If I add Sodium Lactate Plus and then adjust the pH to 4-5.5 using Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid, will Sodium Lactate Plus still retain its properties at this pH range?
  4. Regarding thickeners, does AnyGel or SugarThick reduce the foaming performance of liquid soap? Are they suitable for thickening or gelling at pH 4-6?

Answer

Based on the staff's response:

  1. Sodium Lactate Plus has a pH range of 5.0-6.5.
  2. For moisturizing in shower gel, 2-3% of Sodium Lactate Plus is recommended.
  3. Sodium Lactate Plus will retain its properties when the pH is adjusted to 4-5.5 with Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid.
  4. Regarding thickeners:
    • SugarThick has been tested and does not negatively affect foam performance.
    • AnyGel has not been tested for its effect on foam, so the staff cannot confirm.
    • Both AnyGel and SugarThick can be used to create a gel texture in liquid soap formulas at pH 4-6 without issues.
