Question
I am making a reed diffuser blend using Reed Diffuser Base (Type 2) at a ratio of 70% base to 30% fragrance. I find the base has a strong odor compared to store-bought diffusers. How can I reduce this base odor?
Answer
Addressing the Strong Odor in Your Reed Diffuser Blend
It's understandable that you're experiencing a strong odor from the Reed Diffuser Base (Type 2) when making your blend, especially when comparing it to store-bought diffusers.
Here's some information and a recommendation:
- Base Odor: Diffuser bases, like solvents, can have their own inherent scent. This odor might be quite noticeable when smelling the liquid directly from the bottle or mixture. When the diffuser is in use, the fragrance is designed to evaporate and spread, ideally masking the base odor. However, some bases have stronger odors than others.
- Store-Bought Diffusers: Commercial reed diffusers may use different types of bases or higher concentrations of fragrance, which can result in a less noticeable base odor.
- Recommendation: As suggested by the staff, the Reed Diffuser Base (Type 1) is specifically noted to have a weaker scent compared to Type 2. If the base odor of Type 2 is interfering with your fragrance, especially if your fragrance is light, switching to Type 1 is highly recommended. Type 1 is designed to not disturb the smell of the perfume.
- Usage Ratio: Your current ratio of 70% base to 30% fragrance is within the recommended range for Reed Diffuser Base (Type 1), which is typically 70-75% base and 25-30% fragrance.
By switching to Reed Diffuser Base (Type 1), you should find that the base odor is significantly reduced, allowing the true scent of your fragrance to come through more clearly, similar to the store-bought diffusers you've experienced.
