Question
I have a formula containing Retinal in a Squalane (Olive) base. Is this formulation compatible? I would like to add Perfect-C™ at 5%. Is this possible, and if so, how should I adjust the Squalane percentage? Finally, for a formula that contains no water, is a preservative needed?
Answer
Hello,
Based on the staff's reply:
- Compatibility of the original formula: The original formula is not compatible. This is because Retinal (Retinaldehyde) does not dissolve well in oil-based formulas and will likely precipitate. Retinal needs to be in a more viscous formula (like a cream) to be properly dispersed.
- Adding Perfect-C™: Yes, you can add Perfect-C™ 5% to the formula by reducing the proportion of Squalane (Olive). This combination is compatible.
- Need for a preservative: If the formula contains no water, you do not need to add a preservative.
