Retinal Solubility in LipidSoft Lite

Based on the product information, Retinal (Retinaldehyde) is soluble in oil. LipidSoft™ Lite (Isononyl Isononanoate) is an oil-like emollient.

Therefore, Retinal can be dissolved in LipidSoft™ Lite. However, using only 1% LipidSoft™ Lite to dissolve 0.1% Retinal might be challenging if LipidSoft™ Lite is the only oil phase in the formulation, as the amount of solvent is quite low relative to the solute. If LipidSoft™ Lite is part of a larger oil phase in your formula, it should be able to dissolve the Retinal at 0.1% concentration.

Suitable Solvents for Retinal:

Since Retinal is oil-soluble, other suitable oil-based solvents or emollients commonly used in cosmetic formulations can be used to dissolve it. These include:

• Other types of LipidSoft™ that are oil-soluble (check their descriptions for solubility).
• Common cosmetic esters and oils (e.g., Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Squalane, various cosmetic esters).

Remember to mix Retinal into the oil phase and avoid exposing it to heat during the production process. Also, ensure the final formulation is packaged to protect from light, as Retinal is sensitive to light.
