คำถาม

I am formulating an anti-aging gel for oily skin for a 50-year-old.

Here are the ingredients I plan to use:

  • Pep®-Coll
  • Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 (Argireline)
  • REGU®-AGE
  • Slim-Coffee™ (Caffeine)
  • Reservoir-Tech
  • Safe-B3™ (Vitamin B3, Niacinamide)
  • Phospholipid
  • DMAE
  • Double Hyaluron Liquid
  • Aloe Vera Gel (Heavy) - 90 g

My mixing method is to blend all ingredients except Aloe Vera Gel (Heavy) together using a blender for 1 minute, then pour into the Aloe Vera Gel (Heavy) and shake to combine.

Could you please review the ingredients and mixing method and advise if any adjustments are needed for this anti-aging formula?

Review of Your Anti-Aging Gel Formulation

Your selection of ingredients for an anti-aging gel for oily skin at age 50 includes several effective actives. Ingredients like Pep®-Coll, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, DMAE, Safe-B3™, and Double Hyaluron Liquid are well-suited for targeting wrinkles, firmness, hydration, and managing oiliness.

REGU®-AGE is primarily for the eye area but can offer general anti-inflammatory and strengthening benefits to the facial skin as well. Slim-Coffee™ (Coffee Extract) provides antioxidant benefits and can help with microcirculation, contributing to overall skin health.

However, there are a couple of points regarding the ingredients and the mixing method that should be addressed:

  • Phospholipid: This ingredient typically requires both an oil and water phase and high-speed blending for proper incorporation and effectiveness as a penetration enhancer and moisturizer. In a simple water-based gel like the Aloe Vera Gel (Heavy), it may not disperse correctly or provide its intended benefits. It might be best to omit Phospholipid from this specific gel formulation unless you plan to significantly alter the base to include an oil phase and use a high-shear mixer.

  • Mixing Method: The proposed method of blending all actives together and then shaking into the base is not ideal and could affect the stability and efficacy of the ingredients. Many active ingredients have specific requirements for temperature and mixing to ensure they remain potent and integrate correctly into the formula.

Recommended Mixing Procedure

For a stable and effective gel, follow these steps:

  1. Measure out 90g of the Aloe Vera Gel (Heavy) base.
  2. If your Safe-B3™ is in powder form, dissolve it completely in a small amount of distilled water first.
  3. Add the dissolved Safe-B3™ (if applicable) and all other liquid active ingredients (Pep®-Coll, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, REGU®-AGE, Slim-Coffee™, Reservoir-Tech, DMAE, Double Hyaluron Liquid) directly to the Aloe Vera Gel base.
  4. Stir the mixture gently but thoroughly using a spatula or a low-speed mixer until all ingredients are fully and evenly dispersed. Avoid creating excessive foam or heating the mixture, keeping the temperature below 40°C.
  5. Once homogeneous, the gel is ready.

It is also recommended to check the pH of the final product and adjust it to be within the optimal range for the actives, ideally between 5.0 and 6.5, to ensure maximum effectiveness and minimize potential irritation.

By adjusting the mixing method and considering the compatibility of Phospholipid with the gel base, you can create a more stable and effective anti-aging product for oily skin.
