Question

I would like to know about the solubility and mixing of Squalane.

  • Does Squalane need to be dissolved?
  • Can it be mixed with 1,3-Propanediol?
  • Can LipidSoft Lite be used to dissolve oil-soluble ingredients like Squalane?

Answer

Squalane Solubility

Thank you for your questions.

Based on the information, Squalane (Olive) is an oil and does not need to be dissolved. It is ready to use as is (100%) or can be mixed with other natural oils.

Regarding your specific questions:

  • Mixing Squalane with 1,3-Propanediol: Squalane is an oil, while 1,3-Propanediol is a water-miscible solvent/humectant. Oils and water-miscible substances generally do not mix well without an emulsifier. Therefore, Squalane is typically not soluble in 1,3-Propanediol.
  • Using LipidSoft Lite to dissolve oil-soluble ingredients (like Squalane): Squalane itself is an oil, so it doesn't need to be dissolved. LipidSoft Lite is an emollient that can be used in place of traditional oils and is likely compatible with Squalane. You can mix Squalane with LipidSoft Lite as part of the oil/emollient phase of your formulation. If your formula is water-based, you would still need an emulsifier to combine the oil/emollient phase (containing Squalane and/or LipidSoft Lite) with the water phase.

In summary, Squalane is an oil ingredient and should be incorporated into the oil phase of your formulation.
