Sunscreen Formula is Oily and Sticky: Seeking Adjustment
Question
My sunscreen formula is oily and sticky. What is causing this, and how can I adjust the formula to fix it?
My current formula is:
- SPF Protect Plus 20%
- Lipidsoft 10%
- Vit E 1%
- B3 4%
- Aloe Vera Extract 2%
- Light Cream Maker 1.5%
- Preservative 1%
- Water to 100%
Answer
The oiliness and stickiness in your sunscreen formula are caused by the relatively high amount of oil-based ingredients, particularly SPF Protect Plus, which is already an oil base. When combined with Lipidsoft and Vitamin E, which is a high-viscosity oil, the cream texture becomes excessively oily and sticky.
Following the staff's recommendation, removing 10% Lipidsoft and 1% Vitamin E from the formula will significantly reduce the amount of oil-based ingredients. This will result in a lighter cream texture and reduce stickiness, while maintaining the sun protection efficacy from SPF Protect Plus at the original percentage.
Revised Formula:
- SPF Protect Plus 20%
- B3 4%
- Aloe Vera Extract 2%
- Light Cream Maker 1.5%
- Preservative 1%
- Water to 100%
This adjustment should help you achieve a more comfortable sunscreen texture that doesn't leave an oily or sticky feeling on the skin.
