Question
Can Coco Glucoside be used as a thickener in formulations? If not, what are recommended thickeners for formulations containing Coco Glucoside, such as shampoos or liquid soaps?
Answer
Coco Glucoside as a Thickener
Coco Glucoside is primarily used as a gentle, natural-origin non-ionic surfactant or detergent, derived from coconut or palm oil and glucose from corn. It is not typically used as a thickener on its own.
To increase the viscosity or thicken formulations that use Coco Glucoside as a detergent (such as shampoos or liquid soaps), you need to use specific thickening agents. The following thickeners are recommended for use with Coco Glucoside:
- SugarThick™ (provides clear formula)
- ClearClean™ (provides opaque/white formula)
- Xanthan Gum (can provide clear formula)
- EasyThick™ (can provide clear formula)
- Mild-Wash™ and/or Coco-Foam™ together with Flora Foam™ (recommended for clear formula, helps create more stable bubbles)
