Question
I am developing a toner formula for oily/combination skin, aiming to reduce oiliness and tighten pores.
My current formula includes:
- Butylene glycol
- Vitamin B5
I plan to add Encapsulated Salicylic Acid to the formula to help with clogged pores and blackheads. I understand that using it in a leave-on product like a toner is generally more effective than a wash-off product like a face wash. However, I am currently recovering from laser treatment and need to be mindful of usage frequency (daily vs. intermittent).
Could you please advise on:
- The suitability of adding
Encapsulated Salicylic Acidto this toner base? - Whether removing Butylene glycol and Vitamin B5 is advisable for oil control?
- Any other ingredient suggestions for enhancing oil control in this type of toner?
Answer
Based on the staff's responses:
Regarding your toner formula for oily/combination skin aiming to reduce oiliness and tighten pores:
- The staff recommended removing Butylene glycol and Vitamin B5 from your formula to help reduce moisture and control oiliness.
- Optional ingredients like Zinc PCA, Licochalcone A, or MSM were suggested if you wish to further enhance oil control.
Regarding the use of encapsulated salicylic acid:
- Encapsulated salicylic acid can be added to your toner formula and is compatible with the other ingredients.
- For treating clogged pores and blackheads, using encapsulated salicylic acid in a leave-on product like your toner is more effective than using it in a wash-off product like a face wash. This is because the longer contact time allows the ingredient to work more effectively.
- Consider the frequency of use (daily vs. intermittent) based on your skin's needs and sensitivity, especially while recovering from laser treatment.
