Two-Phase Cleansing Formula Adjustment (Removing Alcohol)

Question

Hello, I'm planning to make a two-phase cleansing liquid (oil and water layers). Could you please review the formula below to see if it's suitable? My skin is combination type, with a very oily T-zone and dry elsewhere. I'm prone to inflammatory acne and clogged pores, especially in the T-zone.

Oil Phase:

  • Oilsify 30: 6%
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil: 31%

Water Phase:

  • Butylene Glycol: 10%
  • Glycerin: 7%
  • Ethyl Alcohol: 5%
  • Poloxamer 184: 10%
  • Poloxamer 124: 5%
  • Water: 25%
  • Mild Preserved: 1%

Based on the formula above, if I don't want to include Ethyl Alcohol, can I remove it and increase the percentage of other ingredients instead? If yes, which ingredient should I increase?

Answer

Revised Two-Phase Cleansing Formula

This formula removes Ethyl Alcohol and increases Butylene Glycol for a potentially gentler product suitable for combination, acne-prone skin.

Oil Phase:

  • Oilsify 30: 6%
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil: 31%

Water Phase:

  • Butylene Glycol: 15% (Increased from 10%)
  • Glycerin: 7%
  • Poloxamer 184: 10%
  • Poloxamer 124: 5%
  • Water: 25%
  • Mild Preserved (Ethylhexylglycerin + Caprylyl Glycol): 1%

Total: 100%

This adjustment maintains the overall balance of the formula while making it potentially less irritating. The combination of Oilsify 30 in the oil phase and Poloxamers in the water phase should still provide effective makeup removal.
