Question

Can PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate (Coco Wash) or PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil be used alone as emulsifiers? What are their limitations, especially with higher oil percentages, and what alternatives are recommended for oil percentages between 15-40% or up to 20%?

Answer

Based on the previous response, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate (Coco Wash) and PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil are High HLB emulsifiers. When used alone, they are suitable for emulsifying a very low percentage of oil, typically not exceeding 1-2%. For higher oil percentages, they are generally used in combination with Low HLB emulsifiers to improve stability. For oil percentages between 15-40%, emulsifiers like Milk Lotion Maker or Butter Cream Maker are recommended, and for oil up to 20%, Satin Cream Maker can be used.
