Using Azelaic Acid in Soap: Effectiveness and Absorption
Question
I would like to know if Azelaic Acid can be used in a soap formulation. If so, will it still be effective for its intended benefits such as skin brightening, reducing dark spots, controlling oiliness, and reducing acne?
Answer
Azelaic Acid (Liquid Azelaic™) in Soap
Azelaic Acid (Liquid Azelaic™) is designed to work by absorbing into the skin over time to provide benefits such as brightening, reducing dark spots, controlling oiliness, and reducing acne.
When used in a wash-off product like soap, the ingredient is in contact with the skin for only a very short period before being rinsed away. This limited contact time means that the Azelaic Acid does not have sufficient opportunity to be absorbed and exert its intended effects.
Therefore, while it might be technically possible to include it in a soap formulation, it would not be effective and would not provide the desired results for skin brightening or oil control. It is best used in leave-on formulations such as serums, lotions, or creams where it can remain on the skin.
