Question
Regarding the use of Semi Red Brown color:
If I want the Semi Red Brown color to be darker and stick better, and I want to add ColorFix,
- Should I add it directly into the base cream?
- Should I mix it with other ingredients first?
- Can I mix it with the Semi Red Brown color first and then mix that with the base cream?
Answer
Using ColorFix with SemiColor - Red Brown
To help your Semi Red Brown color stick better and last longer, you should add ColorFix directly into your base cream formulation.
- Mixing Method: Both SemiColor - Red Brown and ColorFix should be added directly into your base cream (or shampoo/conditioner base). There is no need to pre-mix ColorFix with the concentrated SemiColor before adding it to the base. Adding them directly to the base allows for proper dispersion within the final product.
- Usage Rate: The recommended usage rate for ColorFix is typically 0.6% in shampoo formulas and 5% in conditioner or hair treatment formulas. Since your base is a cream, the 5% recommendation for conditioner/treatment is a good guideline to follow for ColorFix. The usage rate for SemiColor - Red Brown will depend on the desired color intensity, but the description mentions a range of 0.5-12% (with a recommendation of 1% to avoid staining, though higher percentages up to 12% are permitted by FDA).
- pH: For better color attachment, it is recommended to adjust the pH of your final formulation to around 8-9.
By adding ColorFix directly to your base cream along with the SemiColor - Red Brown, you utilize its cationic properties to help the color pigments adhere better to the hair, resulting in improved color intensity and longevity.
